Overview

Join clubs from across Queensland for the 25th anniversary of the 4WD QLD Association’s K’gari Clean Up. Over four days we’ll remove rubbish from beaches, campsites, and tracks, helping protect one of Australia’s most iconic sand islands.

 

Where: K’gari (Fraser Island), Queensland

When: Friday 8 May to Monday 11 May 2026 (Australia/Brisbane)

Who: Financial or temporary members of affiliated 4WD QLD clubs

 

Key Dates

  • Now → Oct 2025: Save the date and plan your crew/vehicles.
  • November 2025: Association registration opens (limited spots).
  • March–April 2026: Final logistics, convoys, and camping allocations.
  • 8–11 May 2026: Event weekend.

 

What to Expect

  • Beach and bushland clean-ups in assigned zones
  • Daily rubbish collection points and weighing
  • Evenings back at camp for social catch-ups and briefings
  • Recognition of the 25-year milestone with a group photo and presentation

 

Indicative Schedule (subject to change)

  • Fri 8 May: Arrivals, vehicle checks, safety briefing, camp setup
  • Sat 9 May: Clean-up operations (Zone A/B), waste drop-off
  • Sun 10 May: Clean-up operations (Zone C/D), tally & debrief
  • Mon 11 May: Pack down and departures

 

Permits, Access & Vehicles

  • Vehicle access permits and camping permits are required for K’gari.
  • High-clearance 4WD with recovery points is essential; low-range recommended.
  • Expect soft sand, tides, and beach travel; follow local regulations and tides.

 

What to Bring (minimum)

  • Recovery gear: snatch strap/kinetic rope, rated shackles/soft shackles, compressor, gauge, shovel
  • Safety: first aid kit, PPE (gloves, hi-vis, enclosed footwear), UHF (Ch 40/club channel)
  • Clean-up: heavy-duty bags, grabbers, buckets (Association may supply some items)
  • Camping: water, food, shelter, lighting, waste management
  • Spares: tyre repair kit, fluids, basic tools

 

Environmental & Cultural Respect

  • Follow “leave no trace” principles.
  • Stay on designated tracks; observe beach speed limits and tide timings.
  • Respect the island’s cultural heritage and local wildlife.

 

Registration & Costs

  • How to register: Via the Association portal when it opens November 2025.
  • Fees: To be confirmed (vehicle permits, camping, barge/ferry costs apply).
  • Club coordination: Your club will coordinate convoys, zones, and campsite preferences.
